Not on the blink

My left hand indicator (dash) light doesn't flash, although all external lights do work. Can anyone give me any tips to troubleshoot this? The car actually failed it's MOT because of it, but the following day an ex-TVR owner who works in the garage said it was just a loose connection and passed the car at no extra cost. Only problem was, the light didn't work when I got my car back .....

my chim is a '98 and the indicator LEDs ( plus about 4 others )are all on a common PCB strip - not sure if it is the same on the earlier cars....could be a dry solder joint ???
