Has anyone bought one recently, if so where from.
I see a lot of green boxed lucas ones advertised but the quality on these is suspect so ive read.
Some older red boxed versions do come up on ebay now and again but getting harder to find now.

I bought one of these, which so far hasn't missed a beat:

The other option would be to go to one of the many land rover specialists and say you want a genuine unit rather than a pattern part.

Obviously, you may have a two wire amp or a three wire amp, so make sure you get the correct one.

I'm looking for the same, I think I need a 3 wire amp and have the same questions as the OP about the quality of the newer parts. Be good to definitively know of one that is proven to be good

I saw this one before, from looking at the terrible pictures, it appears to be a DAB127 part number which I believe is the one of the correct older part numbers. The new part number seems to be DAB 118 but I' not sure of the difference. Either way I nearly bought this one myself but wasn't sure at the time what I was looking at

I see you bought it! Damn, I was having second thoughts! I'm hoping more come up as like you say, getting harder to find. Be good to know what condition it is really in based on those pictures!

Just a note with regard to identifying an original one. I believe they have the Lucas logo embossed (standing out) in the plastic rather than just printed on....

Im visiting Racetech direct on Saturday to pick up a few bits, I might ask them about the aftermarket ones they sell as I presume they know it works well so I might pick one of theirs up instead.

I always opted to buy bits like these from a good Tvr supplier as the cost is never that off and generally they supply the better stuff available and right first time.
If it saves me buying crap and having to do it twice it’s well worth it smile

I bought an ignition amp and a coil a few years ago from a well known specialist supplier (not the one named in this thread) and they both failed within 1,000 miles of use.

Not saying that would happen if you were to buy again, but while I agree with the comment that it should fit first time and it probably won’t be a lot more expensive, that doesn’t mean it is genuine Lucas or genuine Bosch.

True but the better parts dealers tend to know it’s a pain in the arse so usually get the best they can as they know only to well how much of a hard life they take under a Tvr bonnet.

I was really referring to how they usually send the correct part for our application, if it fails or not is another thing.

It might be part of what influenced my decision to go to a more modern system. Just removes a lot of searching for service parts,,, which just shows I’m lazy biglaugh

Mine is 3 pin on a 1995, i suspect most are.
Check before ordering, its easy to get at.
That seller also lists a green boxed lucas version for £28, ive ordered one to try out even if they are cheap alternatives it seems the only option.
Makes you wonder if its better to ditch the dizzy and go for something like a megajolt now these parts are suspect quality.
