Today has been a nightmare. Started the job of changing my pas pump, it’ll be easy I said.

6 hours later and I’ve removed 6 bolts. Every bolt seized. Spent two hours getting the pulley bolts off, eventually going through a whole blowtorch full of gas for each bolt. By 4pm I had got down to the last bolt, the recessed ones deep inside the pas pump housing. I got one out, the final one is now well and truly rounded, I’ve tried loads of heat, loads of penetrating oil, rounded nut remover sockets, nothing is budging it and it is so deep that I can’t do any of the traditional methods for removing it. It was a 10mm head, now it’s closer to 9mm. I’ve used various sized sockets, hammered on 3/8 imperial socket like I did with the other bolts to remove but that just rounded it more.

I’ve given up now due to light but I’m well and truly stuck. Anyone know any clever way to remove it? Also where can I get replacement flange head bolts of different sizes?

I’m very annoyed! Thanks

Did this myself a couple of years ago. I had to use a 6 point socket borrowed from a mechanic friend on one of the bolts since a 12 point slipped off. Otherwise you could try some sort of special grip socket - bergen, grip tite etc ?

Btw the pulley bolts were hard to remove presumably due to them being loctited on. Don't forget the loctite when you put them back on...

Can you drill the head off or at least weaken it so it shears off.
Replacement bolts are not hard to find.
