Anyone thinking of selling a set of SP12s 4 stud?
Discussion
As above, I need to get hold of a set of these. It turns out the car I bought has come with tyres with a date code of 1305. Yes, 13 years old!
Rather than replace these tyres I’d like to take the opportunity to upgrade to the wheels I want anyway. If anyone has a set they haven’t advertised yet, please let me know. Would like 18/17 rear/front.
Thanks

Just be careful if you are planning to change wheel sizes, these cars are very sensitive to sidewall flex - even requiring some thought into stock tyres and the hardness of the sidewall, some makes are too hard and destroy the ride and handling. IMHO start putting low profile tyres on these cars without shock, spring and set up mods and this issue becomes even more of a problem.
I've always liked the 18 and 17 option, but always favoured handling over looks. I've spoke to too many folk that have told me how they've ruined their cars with bigger wheels.....so I'm just agreeing about thinking twice about such a upgrade.....2nd hand experience mind and I'm sure plenty on here will tell you how great their bigger wheels are, but I suspect that will be down to further upgrades to the their chassis.
Well I don’t disagree, but I’ve read that the handling can be improved with this set up, if not maybe the ride quality. I do have adjustable shocks fitted so I hope I can dial in the correct settings to make it handle well plus for the time being I’m not going to be tracking it so it won’t be as much of an issue. I’d like to try it anyway, worse case I sell them on if it’s terrible.
Which is why (IMHO), 2nd hand is a good option, if you've the patience of course!
4 x 17" Ford fitment or a combination of sizes pop up in the classifieds, ebay etc now and again. Often with decent tyres on too but that is more a matter of choice.

My car runs on bigger wheels because I upgraded my brakes. No going back for me.
I have 2 sets of 17 inch all round, and a set of SP12s in 17/18 which I am not planning on selling.
The benefit of the SP12s is that they are the correct offset both front and rear - my 17 inch sets are Ford fit, and so are the same front and rear, but I adjust for this with 5mm spacers on the front. Note - don't use bigger spacers without changing to longer studs, or your wheels could drop off.
I cannot say i have ever noticed harsh ride issues, but maybe that is because I have used softer sidewall tyres, or because I simply soften my adjustable dampers until it feels right.
The Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres that receive rave reviews on here come in 17 or 18 inch sizes to suit the Chimaera wheel widths, and have a softer sidewall than some, I am told. I have them on 17 inch wheels on my Saab and find the ride very compliant. Not yet worn out my Chimaera tyres, despite trying!
OP, if you are anywhere near the East Midlands or East Anglia you are welcome to see what my car feels like on bigger wheels. I have two sets for road use - one Toyo R1R on SP12, the other Toyo R888R on Team Dynamics Monza Rs in 17 inch. The R888R are track tyres, so should be pretty firm. Ride feels fine to me.

Yes thanks again Peter, the ride was awesome, it didn't feel harsh at all. I reckon with some SP12s and the right damper settings and tyres it would be fine for me. The tyres I would go for are probably the uniroyals because of the reviews. The pair I'm looking at have a good set of P Zeros on the front, and a worn set on the back. Not sure what they are worth though. Wheels are in good condition. Any thoughts?

Sorry, didn't put PH name together with faceache name. SP12s new are £810, a new set of Uniroyal R3s are around £350 fitted IIRC. So work down from there.
Once upon a time I wished I had bought new.
Then I took two wheels off the car on one occasion, and left them standing upright on the drive while I popped inside for essential maintenance.
Came out three minutes later to find the wheels lying face down, chipped.......grandchildren just couldn't resist the opportunity to meddle when i was out of sight.
Frankly, I have marked every set of wheels i have ever bought, which similarly is the reason i won't have the car re-sprayed - it would only get chipped within 30 minutes of my first drive.
Good luck with your hunt. I will ping you a message if I spot any.

Hi DevAll I am saying - just be careful, know you are on a budget, Peter's car is highly modified with a lot of expensive suspension mods.
Do some research before you pull the trigger - Daz (silicone kid) had some bad steering problems with bigger front wheels, they were back on the market soon after, think he is now running 16 on the front
