Tvr key upgrades?
Discussion
I love my TVR but the key is nasty. Everything about the car is unique and interesting, apart from the bit you carry around with you everyday.
I want it to look like it will start a spaceship not a metro.
Is there anything that can be done?
I’m tempted to make something myself if not.

Be fair, it's a Vauxhall Cavalier. I want it to look like it will start a spaceship not a metro.

You could just cover the plastic bit in something else?
How about an Opel key conversion from HF Solutions?

Just get a new key cut
it goes in the slot you turn it car runs what more do you need ?
unless your the sort that leaves their keys on the bar on display etc
Perhaps the OP wants to get away from the ancient idea of having a separate alarm remote fob and key, I can understand this as these days we all just carry a key for our everyday car, in my opinion having a separate dangling remote fob like this can feel very old hat.

Here's my Chimaera key with the Meta alarm and door lock/unlock fob integrated into the key itself, so this is all I need to put in my pocket.
Press the little disc with the TVR logo in it to unlock the doors and press it again to lock, it's a small detail but I just prefer the all in one integrated key and remote..

I'd be interested in a flip key solution, but it would need to be a high quality solution, integrating ideally:
- Lock/Unlock
- Boot Release
- Battery connect/disconnect (I have a battery brain to protect from low charge and it also has its own fob)
I realise that most don't have the battery brain, but I would argue that you should all have one being TVR owners, and then integrate control of it with the key fob

I've had a Battery Brain for years, I would agree every TVR owner should have one and for many reasons:
1. It's a brilliant safety addition to ensure against electrical fires when the car is laid up
2. Provides a second line of defense against theft
3. Allows you to remotely disconnect the battery after locking the car which not only means the car is secure but also ensures you can return to the car months later and it will still start
4. Will save you from a flat battery if you inadvertently leave your lights on
However, the remotes they supply with the Battery Brain are delicate, drop one and it'll not recover from the incident so treat them with care, if you break both the remotes that come with the Battery Brain you'll be in for a whole new Battery Brain which are now getting expensive.
I'm currently down to one remote which worries me so when my last one dies (and it will) I will be going for the Battery Brain model with the simple wired momentary switch which will be way more reliable than the delicate remotes.

I plan to either fit the switch under the mirror as per the door opening button on later Chimaeras, or more likely I'll replace the push button monetary switch with a magnetic reed switch secured inside the mirror shell, I did the same with my boot release so opening the boot can be completed by waving the magnet in my key fob over my rear number plate.
The magnetic reed switch idea works great for the boot release so will work equally well for the Battery Brain, and with a magnet already hidden inside my leather key fob there will be no delicate Battery Brain remotes to carry about or break, and no Battery Brain remote batteries to go flat either.
