It's part of BDML Connect Limited, an FSA regulated firm, so you have some protections. They are not permitted to hold your money but can take a fee and pass on premium to insurers.

I have just taken out insurance with DIRECTLINE, I would def give them a shot, £980 at 26 living in London (car left on driveway) is pretty damn good and at least 300 better than then nearest competitor. I spent most of the afternoon trying almost everyone on the web and couldn't even get close

Try www.autotrader.co.uk/CARS/motoring/ins/insurance-centre.jsp - they search loads of sites and always seem to come up with the cheapest for cars in my case

extra mods will cost you on direct line in a way that other companies will not bother to charge

tescos can also be cheap

my preference in my next year is to go for a company that knows the cars better than these do

Direct Line and Tescos are one and the same - All part of RBS, tesco are the retail brand, RBS are in partnership with tesco. They also own Churchill.

thanks for the advice, I went through most of the above, lots wouldn't even quote me!! or said there was no point as I'd not been insured on a car such as a tvr or a high performance car before, I'd consider my past Mx5 and an Mr2 plus a seven style Kit car to be relativly high performance for a youngish (26 now) driver, if I could have afforded a tvr years ago I would have had one!! Got the best price through privilege £650ish limited to 5K a year

Just got a very low quote from Norwich union (yes they did quote me happy!) on my soon to be P&J 97 chim 4.5. I am 37 but I have just the 1 years no claims, never had what they would call a sports car before, and I have 4 insurance claims hanging over from 2002 - Got fully comp for £825 a year which I think is a total bargain. Shopped around the usual specialists lowest was £1100 highest £1600 - oh apart from Tesco who wouldnt quote me !

Terms are limited mileage 5000 , fully comp plus the Mrs as an additional driver. Also got legal cover added on. Of course I did ask for an excess of £1000 which dropped the quote down from £1095..... ;-)

Try "confused.com" - I wouldn't guarantee that you'll get the cheapest quote available, but it's a good one-stop-shop way of getting a range of quotes.

Allows potential TVR owners, like me, to see if it's a goer, or not.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quotes for a 4.0 Chimaera compared to a Scoobie, and even compared to an MX5 and MR2 Roadster - neither of which are in the same league performance-wise.

It's a dark-art, is insurance!

I found Tescos to still be the best. 22yo 4years protected no claims. Owned the car for 18months now. 12000 annual mileage as it my only car. And renewal quote was around 1500, would have been 1200 without the protected no claims. Mind you it is garaged in what would be considered a safe area.

If you've had the car for a year, try Cheam on 020 8652 7733

They've just saved me £250! Down to £1169, parked on drive in South London! And points...

Does that mean Cheam are back in business now ?

I was with Cheam (4 yrs) until last year when everything seemed to be passed to NU. If I recall, NU bought out (and closed down) Hill House Hamond who actually owned Cheam. They tried to convince me that a £700 increase via NU was the best I would get.
In the end I managed to get £100 off the previous years cost to £600 (for a 5ltr full NCD protected, garaged, no points) Includes track day cover.
