Looking to fit boot release (magnetic one)

Don’t want alarm fob 433 transmitter one or the push button solution by number plate when the magnetic one seems fair simpler

What I think I know lol....but please looking for confirmation as never done it !

Feed from Purple wire from interior light so when alarm deactived then feeds magnetic reed switch which can be placed somewhere in boot area (this would mean reed switch dead when alarm / doors locked correct ?)

So.... purple wire to one wire on reed switch then other wire from reed switch to the 12V feed on boot Release solenoid

Then magnet placed on key ring swipe over reed switch location and boot pops

Anyone done this as above with magnetic reed switch ? Seems very simple and would cost less than £3 !

As above have no desire to use extra fobs or convert mine or use micro switches and or fit push buttons

Be great to know if I’m on to something and if it’s been done ? As would be a very simple and mega cheap easy mod

Thanks

There used to be a company called ModWise who I think did the 2-stage fan conversion, who also did a magnetic boot release kit. Write-up here:

Has the alarm got a wire that becomes live when switching it off?

A reed switch will burn out if connected directly to an actuator motor, you will need to wire in a relay

The purple wire referred to earlier (interior light supply) is permanent +12V irrespective of the alarm/immobiliser condition.
And you will need a relay as penny said.

I have the Modwise kit installed. Been in for around 10years.
It includes a micro switch that is actuated by the central locking mechanism on the passenger door and a micro reed relay that sits in the rear lamp cluster. There is no other relay in the kit.
The only question is ,is there a relay in circuit when opening via the button under the dash?.
I believe not.
Opening is via a small magnet on my key ring if the central locking is not locked. I have it tucked into the leather key fob.

The switch under the dash can carry the current of the solenoid. A reed switch cannot. (it may for a few times but will not last)

The reed relay in the my Modwise kit has last over 10 years with the boot being opened multiple times per week

Modwise kit here too, fitted myself not long after I had the car, has worked perfectly for last 10 years.

Another Modwise kit fitted thumbup years ago. I drilled a recess in the plastic part of the ignition key, the right size to embed the magnet, and then a blob of araldite did the job.

Brilliant ! I had an idea that it could be done for little money not that the midwise kit is expensive not at all but worth doing if it’s fairly straight forward , any chance of a “how too” or wiring diagram and where feeds were taken ?!?

I’ve done lots of mods on motorbikes via forums that have “how too” step by step but this seems not the case for TVR forums , had a glint of an idea and hey presto it can be done but still need a little help to complete 100% and save time making any unnecessary mistakes

This is on my S not a Chimaera.

My battery is in the boot so live is to hand. Don't tell anyone but it is permanently live, on the the theory that no one knows it's there or where the magnetic switch is so little chance of anyone will ill intent waving a magnet around to try and break into the boot, which could be physically ripped open should a baddy really want my spacesaver and a gallon of petrol !

Not keen on putting up "how to's" for my little mods, I'm happy with them and they work for me but ..................

May be Penny Plopit will be along to sort you a wiring diagram, best get plenty of relays ready wink

What, only one relay? Are you losing the will to live or something?

Yes Mr, I'm mellowing, I did consider using two more relays, one change-over relay to switch the earth to the motor and another change-over to supply the fuses

I arrived at this forum as a proper plonker and wish to leave as something like run of the mill

Don't think anyone's going to argue with that.
