Hi guys, I don't know if this a common problem or if I'm just being a Muppet. I really struggle to put petrol in the chim... I am unable to get hosel at the right angle to get it in the tank. The boot is in the way, when I just about manage to get it in there I can't get the bloomin thing out again! Yesterday I ended up just hovering the nosel of the hose over the filler cap and pouring it in at about a litre a minute. Am I
I doing something really wrong?

Thanks Tom

I used to find it easier to park with the fuel filler on the opposite side to the pump I.e. the driver's side of the car next to the pump. Then stretch the hose over the open boot and fill with no problems.

I had this problem when the local petrol station installed some sort of glove dispenser thingy on the nozzle handle?? I do remember seeing an post from Chimpongas a few years ago about increasing the gas boot strut length to accommodate his LPG filler.
Without the strut restricting it the boot opens alot wider.
Found the link.

There is no right angle even on the later cars with the boot opening fully.
In the early nineties I don’t think pumps pumped so fast as they do now and as there’s a bend in the entry pipe it compounds the problem. I found over the years pumps with high pressure or just a sensitive trigger would be a pita.
Luckily one out of the pumps at my local runs more docile and that fills ok if slowly.

Clearly having the boot open further helps but it’s not a definitive solution to the actual problem.

Ive come to just consider it one of my Tvr’s quirks and reminds me my car is nearly 20 years old,,, which I quite like biggrin

Definitely the best way for me. Park with the pump on your right. Then have the nozzle pointing to your left as you put it in. Twisting slightly in and out helps too.

I've also lost count how many times the pump goes off after a few liters and an 'assistant' comes out to check you're not filling up a fish tank or something in your boot. frown They're getting to recognise me at the nearest Sainsbury's. Most of the the stations round here don't have super unleaded but they do. smile

Yes, I agree - filler handle lined up in the direction of the driver's side rear lights
