tesco 99 ron petrol...

been using tescos super 99 ron petrol for a couple of weeks and have noticed it runs a bit rough, a lot of hesitation etc... switched back to regular petrol today and it seems fine. anyone else had any problems?

I've tried both Sainsburys high octane and BP Ultimate and have had running problems with both.
Optimax on the other hand is fine, as is both texaco and Esso super.
I won't touch supermarket petrol, though surprisingly it was fine on morrisons stuff.

My car seems to runs exactly the same on Optimax and all other brands of super or premium unleaded, including Sainsburys 97RON, Tesco 99RON, etc.

I must just have an insensitive car, but I just fill up at the nearest/cheapest ..........but every TVR is different!

Well, I have covered 2000 miles in 3 weeks in my Chim500 using optmax for the first 800 or so, and after that various grades/brands (depending on where I was in Wales!) and I have not noticed any difference in performance / running etc. My chim is also slightly modified. smooth bore ACT inlet pipes, larger AFM, Larger Injectors / inlet trumpets ACT. Magnecor leads, Bosh coil / Tornado Chip & rolling road setup (by the previous owner Steve T TVRCCsurrey RO)and I would think that it would be 'sensitive' to the various grades?? but, apparently not??

ti does make me wonder whether we just notice it because we've put in the cheap[er] stuff ourselves.

There's been lots of discussion here from experts who say that it's all prettey similar stuff bar optimax [AFAICR] which starts out at the highest octane but degrades over time.

Having said that I'm putting optimax in mine because I'm collecting th cards! Oh how easily led I am by advertising.

I've tried the Optimax and not found any noticable difference on the road between this and std 97RON. I also used Morrisons on occaision as it is close to the office and not noticed any problems, no pinking or anything. It could be that at some point the car has been set up to run on std 97RON who knows.

Only trying to maintain some modesty! (she relly is a flying machine!!! hat's off to you both!!!)

yes 2000 miles! only thing I have noticed is I have needed to top up the oil and water (1.2L of oil) and about 3/4 L of antifreeze. I check it every other day.

Dont even want to work out the MPG! and as I said cant notice any problems etc with various fuels.

this morning though the idle sat at 1200rpm for about 10 secs, then settles to 900. only when fully warmed up though. any idea's anyone??

i'm just going by experience. I've used Tescos normal unleaded and Sainsburys Super, both of which made my car run rough and gave it a bit of a cough. On the other end of the scale, as mentioned, it hates BP Ultimate.
I also mentioned that Morrisons unleaded is fine with no problems, it runs best on Optimax but theres not much diff between that and normal unleaded from Shell, Texaco and Esso.
I can only comment on my actual experiences with my car, which is maybe a little more tempramental than others. Its certainly not a snobbish thing, my g/fs car runs fine on Tesco, my Chim doesn't - Simple as!!!
There have been plenty of posts on here whereby some users have had running problems on different fuels and I guess it does depend on luck with the car.
