Hi all

My wipers worked ok then today stopped working (nothing on any setting dead but parked correctly)

Stopped car turned ign off and started it again and wipers started working ?

So read loads on the park switch but would it be this if they park ok ?

Checked fuse and relay (but all look ok) so as it stands wipers work , but don’t want a repeat of today when it was raining and I had no wipers !!!!

I’ve rain X’d the screen and my wiper motor is under bonnet not dash (96)

Would the park switch affect this ?

I know this may be an electrical issue somewhere and or motor ? But any advise and pointers would be advantageous

Thanks

Strangely I had this issue earlier this week. Ribbon cable (or was that for lights only?) and wiper motor changed last year. In my case neither wiper switch did anything but trying 5 minutes later on the same journey, everything worked. Self-healing car?

Due to park working, this proves that there is a fused ignition supply at the green cable on the park switch and that the park switch contacts are good as they are switching that green fused ignition supply through to the wiper switch and or wiper delay relay and onwards back to the wiper motor via the Red/Light Green slow speed cable

Depending upon what type fusebox your car has, there may well be one fused ignition supply for park, a second fused ignition supply for intermittent wipe and a third ignition fused supply for the wiper switch

All the above fused ignition supplies should be Green cables

I suggest you check for other fuses playing up and/or a possible faulty intermittent wipe relay
a faulty wiper switch could also cause this problem

If park works you should at the very least have a slow speed even if there is something wrong with the park switch

Relay 5, Relay 9 and fuses 15, 17 & 18 are all involved in the wiper system.

Does wash work (F17)

Thanks Chaps , yes washers work went to unbolt the wiper motor and bolt snapped into the body !!! But as I did this the pic of this black thing with yellow wire came away (as was mounted to motor mounting bolt )

What is it ? And where the hell does the wire connect as I’ve looked everywhere underneath where all the wires are and cannot find where it was connected ? So have left it disconnected !!!

It's a suppressor for radio interference, they can often be found connected to the 1st and 2nd speed wiper motor cables
