Hi all,

I am trying to get hold of the fibre glass panel that secures to the trans tunnel under the centre console. I have tried to common breakers but no joy - any ideas as to where I may get one - or anyone got one?

Also does it have a specific name?

It’s the thin piece of fibreglass that sits under this- I think perhaps the door opening mechanism attaches too?

That will be the one but unfortunately someone has cut off the rubber gaiters that go around the gearlever and handbrake.

I had to replace both. The handbrake one was Ford Granada, gear lever was Sierra I think, but an MGB one might fit I think

So today arrived the section I was missing... pretty chuffed - wasn’t dear and had both gaiters...

However it do seem to fit flush because of the wires going to the hand brake switch...

As this isn’t the original should this have a hole in for wires to pass through?

The wiring that gos to my handbrake switch doesn’t come from the loom above but from below.

Ah ok- do you think that’s my error or variation in the cars?

I honestly don't know. The handbrake switch wire is on the same section of the loom as the reverse light switch which comes from under the car. Are you sure you have the right connector?

The black and yellow/black wires are what I took to be the handbrake switch and green as reverse?

What year is the car?

Can you see under the car, is there another part of the wiring loom with two fly leads that go to the handbrake switch and the reverse switch?

Are you putting this together after the body has been off?

I will double check tomorrow but I’m pretty certain there are no other leads under the car.

The car itself is a 96 car that I am putting together - but I didn’t take it apart so have no notes or references- I think the coming months are going to be painful!

So does your car not have the small hole that I have fed the wire into?

The wires under the middle of the car come down from the top of the tunnel. Wires for the fuel pump come from the boot.

You should have a Black/yellow and a black for the handbrake.
A light green/brown and a Green for reverse
A grey (slate) and a black for the speed sender.

And yes, they are sort of trapped under that cover.

Cheers Steve, yes it’s def black and yellow/black dropping down into the tunnel.

Green reverse plugged in. Just looked a bit odd how that wire just hangs out the side. Presumably then just fill with silicone around the space....

I have been searching for the speed trans wire and I think I have it now - albeit I need another plug! Does this wire drop down into the tunnel at the same place as the handbrake cable? - last question I promise!

No I believe it goes further back almost to the parcel shelf before dropping through.

As Steve says, the rear sensor pick-up cable (>5-10 mph = moving or not) drops down from the parcel shelf area, the handbrake, reverse and speed sensor all come from the top of the tunnel. through the rubber grommet you show in your photo. Anyway this is how it is on my 93' Chimaera. smile
