Afternoon All

For the time being I have a Hot Start kit fitted with a start switch attached should it be needed. Not had to so far.
At the moment this is just "hanging" but want to fit it in a hidden/discrete position.

My thoughts at the moment are to fit it in the hole at the top of the carpeted battery protector which pulls out to allow access to the battery in the passenger foot well. I assume they all have this hole and I also assume it is normally used for removing said panel. I never use the hole for that purpose but if I fit a recessed start button its hidden out of the way and little chance of it being knocked by feet..

Anyone else done this or similar?

Why does it need to be hidden?
If it is wired correctly you will still need the key to start the car even if you have no immobiliser.

Trying to keep it as original looking as possible as in the not too distant future I shall upgrade the alarm.

Can't see an issue with the location as long as your happy with it.

I understand your thinking, it wouldn't do the starter drives teeth much good if it kicked in to a running engine

The method of earthing the relay through the alternator warning light circuit prevents this from happening, when the engine is turning the alternator there is no earth at the alternator warning light terminal as it gives a positive output when charging, the alternator warning light terminal is only to earth when the alternator is stationary

Think I understand that!! Very reluctant to press the switch while the engine is running but I suspect it is already wired as you say. Will check with David.

The Cerbera has a start button with a 2 second delay built into it so that if you touch it while the engine is running, you won't lunch the starter.

It may be worth investigating how it is done, I presume with a relay of some kind, and dare I say, 'copy' it? smile

I have one fitted about 2 inches further forward of the dash board lights button. Easy to get to discreet and no never caught it with my knee.

I bought a Start/Stop button for a friend when he said he wanted to fit one, but still have it. Just wondering where to fit it, so will follow with interest

Yup....... still not fitted it whistle
But I remember these from my school days, so when i spotted it in an auto-jumble, I just had to get it for my dear friend Chilliman, who was waffling on about start buttons (he now has a V8 Vantage, so he bought a car rather then bother to fit a start button).

Did think about putting it there but access to fit seemed a little awkward.

The switch supplied was the only one I had to hand. You could cut the metal lever, just leave the little button. Or find a better switch , farnell or Rs , it only has to switch 20 ma.

Yes David I appreciated that. Have already removed the lever but intend to swop for a circular push button. However will the switch operate the starter motor while the engine is running? Didn't really want to press it to test!!!!

It wasn’t for an engine start, I would of made that different, so it would not engage with the engine running ! So to answer your question yes.

What was the end result?

Before doing anything I decided to have a 12k service at Matt Smith. During that another hot start relay was found underneath car. Had this removed so now just have the HSK I fitted. Car has failed to start on one occasion (pressed button car started) but OK since, but to be fair haven't driven her much. Intention is now to fit new alarm with boot release. On one occasion alarm siren sent out that Geiga counter type noise so I guess internal battery is on it's way out. Another pointer to alarm upgrade.

Nice to find another relay fitted before it caused problems

Thank you for the update
