Hi, I’m looking to buy a Chimaera (no specific car found as yet) and wondered what the ballpark costs might be for a body-off chassis refurb if needed or to have outriggers done?
Reason for asking is to weigh this into the buying decision when checking out a prospective purchase. This will be my 5th TVR, sold my Griff 500 18 years ago, where does the time go!!

Ballpark - full body off, repair/let-in new tube, media blast, zinc coat and then a top coat is about 1800'ish from a good independent.

Clearly, it makes sense to renew fuel and brake lines along with diff' and suspension bushes....pushes price up to £2200???

Full body off refurb I reck 5-7k, as outriggers are generally 1800-2000 without the body fully off

Hi, just replied before the next estimate came in - thanks both, I guess I'm better looking for a car which has had the work done!

Spot on.
It will be better to take your time and find a car that has had the body off, outriggers done, respray and as much else as possible, and that suits your specification.
It always costs more to have these done than it increases the value.

Or buy a 'Project' then when you do the work you will have the car you want.

Yes, good advice either way, I guess the trick is making sure that I don’t buy something shiny that turns out to be a project!

You may find it worthwhile looking on Central TVR's website where they give you some ballpark ideas on costs.

I'm doing mine myself and am up to around £12,000 in parts so far! That said, it does include a complete new chassis... What with a rebuild of the Taraka engine, I'm in for nearly £14,500, and I haven't even touched the top half yet!

I'm teetering on the edge of selling my Chim and it has recently had the outriggers done so all sorted. Drop me a message if you would like to discuss further.
