Drilled discs 260mm currently on ebay..any good??

They are at a greater risk of cracking, but how often do you see them cracked..?
A high proprotion of cars at VMax have drilled discs... none of thse cracked, and in many cases they got some real stick.

Drilled discs have a reputation for cracking but that doesn't mean that they will all dos so. If they were that prone to it and that dangerous then they wouldn't be allowed to sell them.
I think the main issue with the ones on E-Bay is that they are totally unbranded, therefore untested and therefore, possibly dangerous. I'd personally not want to put an unknown part in such an important place on the car.
I fitted Black Diamond 12 groove at the weekend (Personally didn't want to take the chance, however small, with the drilled) and would say they are very good - still to bed in properly at the moment but getting better with each drive. The front discs are about £100 a set (see my profile for exact figures) and so are not a huge amount more than the E-bay ones.
If cash is tight then my choice would then be to stick on original discs again, std ford part from Halfrauds etc...
Drilled discs are notorious for cracking under hard use. You can crack any discs (including plain ones) but drilled discs seem to be far more susceptable.
How many people with drilled discs actually put them to hard use? Not many I suspect. I think the reason people still sell them is that people still buy them, and I suspect many people who buy them go for them because of the looks as much as anything. I have just fitted a complete set supplied by Mtec and he is very quick.
I was running harder standard disc's on my Chim before and found no problems. I have changed to the drilled / grooved set up due to the track days that I do.
I normally change the disc's every 2 years so I am not concerned about disc's cracking.
While I have only had these disc's on for 1 week and I am using Mintex 1144's with them, I have found no problems and have had to do 1 quick stop due to a mad dog in road and found the brake feel very good the bite was good. (Dog lived to bark another day)
The cost of these disc's is cheap but if I find any wear problems I will let you know. They may be cheap to buy but are very good quality.

I was running harder standard disc's on my Chim before and found no problems. I have changed to the drilled / grooved set up due to the track days that I do.

I think i may take a chance as i dont intend 'hard use' as the car is only used (reasonably sensibly) on the road at weekends mainly. i have had a reply back form mtec re: drilled rears and they are 72 quid a pair if the discs are vented? I thought the rears were solids??? any help? if this is the case they are 32 quid a pair.

I'd be very careful with those front discs then. If you've got the solid rear discs then chances are you'll have the 240mm front discs. The ones on E-Bay are 260mm which were fitted to the later cars.
The early Chims (Up to around 96) had solid rear discs and 240mm fronts, AFAIK they aren't directly changeable between the models.

Hmmm, id better check, if it is 240mm i think mtec do these too. What year were the 240's fitted until?

I have bought the discs from ebay and they arrived yesterday.
I am not an expert on discs, so would not be able to say whether they are good or bad. If someone would tell me what to look for, I will post any findings.
The boxes the discs came in are badged as 'National', but the way that the box was wrapped they could have been put into the box just to post.
