Been given a list of a few parts which need or will soon need replacing on my 400. Any help on where to get them and which to go for would be greatly appreciated. I do need the parts in the next couple of days so can't order from USA etc.

1. New Plug leads and heat socks - I was going to get the heat socks from ebay as they're readily available. Plug leads seem to be a big discussion on here, any safe bet for use with the heat socks? Also been suggested going to plugs with the 6 at the end rather than the 7 as the car isn't tracked, yes or no? Can't remember the exact code for the plugs.

2. Thermostat and gasket - Had seen the lower temp (74c) version on tvr parts, as my car does run a little hot, would this be the best option? As they also have a high flow verison.

3. Vacuum unit and pipe - tvr parts?

4. Distributor cap and rotor arm - Not as urgent but may as well get them at the same time, again tvr parts?

5. Stepper motor - I've found these anywhere from £30 to £300... Is there a best one to go for? OE or replacement?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Plugs are NGK ( go to a auto spares place you trust, as there are loads of fakes on Ebay)
BPR6EIX if you fancy longer lasting iridium, or BPR6ES if you want standard.
The "R" allows you to delete the plug extenders and still have the resistive element in the setup.

Who says you need all these bits?
Care is required as some/many of those bits have proven to have issues with the replacements not being the best of quality. Several owners have replaced dizzy caps and rotors only to then put the old ones back on.

Stay with the standard stat temp but get high flow if the option is available. The engine is not designed to run at the lower temp.

Placed the order there with TVR parts and went for as many OEM parts as possible.

Mechanic has checked a lot of things over, he's had a chimaera himself and his brother still has one.

I was having overheating and rough running, cylinder no 5 wasn't firing, two of the plug extenders cracked among other probs.

I've put a low temp one few years ago and this is exactly what you're pointing, ok, when going around tracks or in trafic jams, the car doesn't overheat. But, as soon as your driving outside cities with low external temperature, the engine stays around 75-80°C (not surprising of course) which is too low.
I have bought an high flow recently, not mounted yet, but on the paper it seems to be a better solution.

Got it swapped across to the high flow version, all is well! Hopefully have a much smoother car when it's back.
