Hey again, this relates to my earlier thread about ebay sales of drilled/grooved discs. I thought the discs on my car were 260F 273R but it turns out i have the earlier spec discs, these appear to be 240mm Front Vented, and 245ish?? solid rears, any chance if anyone knows the exact sizes... i have measured them albeit non technically without removing the wheel.

Also is it easy to find pads for this size break setup, and can anyone recommend a good road compound pad that i can buy easily???

Phew... thanks in Adv... Shorts

Those are the same spec as the original V8S brakes. It's been a while since I had to buy any replacements for those, but as far as I can remember the fronts were Sierra 2.0 estate and the rears were Sierra P5 or something like that? Very easy to locate, and nice and cheap anyway. Best bet is to take the old ones to the motorfactors and ensure you get an exact replacement just to be on the safe side. For pads any decent fast road pad will do, my favorites are Tarox XF or Ferodo DS2000.

Any reason to upgrade to the 260s like on the later cars? i feel the braking performance to be fine, but then i havent experienced any bigger. They do seem a little small to upgrade to the drilled disc replacements just for looks, maybe i'll stick it out for a big disc upgrade.

Thanks Muchly V8s

On mine I found that upgrading the fronts to 285mm rotors keeping the original calipers worked really well. As well as drastically improving the heat dissipation (roughly 50% improvement) I felt that it improved the brake balance by correcting the excessive rear bias that the original brakes had.

On my 93 4 ltr I have 240 fronts and 251ish rears.

Basically.. I took the discs into a friendly local motor factors and we matches them up to an appropriate Sierra set.

Seems to be the best approach to ensure the correct set.

Remember to bleed very carefully as i killed the master cylinder which is a weekend job to change!

How did you keep the original calipers on a bigger rotor, doesnt this need a different mounting bracket or something. Is it an easy job (i would say im a fairly competent diy mechanic) or does it require modification to original parts?

Thanks again...

The original calipers can be spaced out using an adapter plate to take the larger discs. Tower View sourced the adapter plates for me (originally supplied by "Hi Spec" but don't take that as a recommendation). Subsequently I've had similar adapters made by BG Developments (and I *do* recommend them).
