Replacing front side light bulbs !

Again for future forum searchers !
One of the headlamps side lights was not working purchased new bulbs 233 type and removed grill (which was easier than I thought it would be) as mine is MK1 with inner arch inspection covers (I’ve checked no holes !!!)
Hand up pull connector and bulb holder out replaced bulb but still not working test bulb it works so not the bulb !!
The bulb holder has to earth so used sand paper to clean all the bulb housing on outside where it pushes into headlight and the spade connector, replaced bulb and now it works !
I never knew the holder has to earth the bulb !
