As per another post, am due to pick up my second Chimaera this weekend (couldn’t last weekend due to a family issue). I’ve already given the seller a deposit.

Seller had said in the AD he was going to MOT the car (expires end of Sept). Then said he would get it MOT’d once sold. Now, after deposit had been transferred etc, is saying he can’t/won’t MOT it.

The car is decent and a good price, but this is a bit of a concern. Just makes me a bit suspicious.

Not sure really how to proceed now.

I would also be concerned and the MOT needs to be done as agreed.

Is it a private sale or from a dealer?

How was the deposit paid?

Ask for your deposit back and go from there

yes

Or ask why he won't honour the deal?

Thanks. It is a private seller and deposit was a bank transfer.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t overreacting etc.

Just souring getting back into a TVR a little.

Odd behaviour, especially when there are so many for sale.

Have your written proof of the agreement for the MOT to be done?

Stinks of the seller knowing it will fail on something serious such as outriggers to me.

Check the previous mot's history, may give you an idea.

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

But he's out of order going back on his word. That's contract breach have you got it writing/emails etc., I'd try and appeal to his better side instead on going in with guns blazing and see where that takes you.

I spoken/messaged him quite reasonably. No guns blazing here smile

MOT history was good, and the outriggers were done in 2016.

He has now said he will try and get it booked in for this week, and wants to keep his word.
He did also say he had come down significantly on price (I had not seen the car at this price point), so I suspect that was part of the reluctance.

We shall see.

Thanks all smile

The market is dead and the seller will know that.

I would say that it said in the advert it will be MOT's and you will collect it as soon as he says it is done. If its going to be more than a week you would like your deposit back.

Worst case of not getting the £100 deposit back is much cheaper than a non trivial MOT failure.

Deposit was more than £100!

Looking ok though, the car is going for its MOT on Friday apparently, so am still on track to pick her up on Saturday.

Good luck! Did you not feel tempted to view the MOT & maybe have a good look underneath etc?

Already had a good look underneath, all is fine there from what I could see and the outriggers were done recently (with evidence).

Can’t get the time off work to go and view the MOT, so will hopefully be ok.

Car needs a wiper motor apparently, so that is being done. Won't be ready for tomorrow now, so next week sometime. Glad I insisted, but also a bit disappointed, was looking forwards to picking her up tomorrow.

If the wipers were just reluctant, rather than completely knackered, a new park switch, cleaning up the connections (I presume it's the earlier under the bonnet one?) and a good coat of rain-x on the screen is usually sufficient. I've owned 3 x Chimaera and driven another 2, and all of them were very reluctant on a dry screen. Especially if the engine isn't running!

They all do that!

An under speced motor I guess.
