Removal of front discs

I want to replace the front discs on my 95 chim' when i replace my flexi brake pipes.
The car has 240mm discs.

In the bible (recently aquired from billynomates - ta again)i have noticed that there is reference to the retaining nut on the rear of the hub, and that the big hex shape aperture on the front is used to steady the hub whilst undoing the nut on the rear is this necessary to remove the disc?

Is it not the case that i can remove the caliper assembly, then the disc should be loose to remove...

If it does need to be done as per the instructions in the bible, mention of '9 foot scaffolding pole and enormous torque' worries me... I am probably mis-reading this, i hope so... in which case apologies steve heath.

You're getting confused, the discs 'float' off when the caliper is eased back, they are only held on by the wheel studs.

The big nut & scaffold is only if you want to split the hubs to replace wheel bearings,

Yes I do thgink you are confused. Page 174- replacing the brake discs is simply remove whell and calliper and use a hammer if necessary to ease them off.

No need to go near the big hub nut.

If they are the original disks you might have a job getting them off. Mine were a bastard.

I eventually got some good advise. Use two hammers at the same time on opposite sides of the disk. a few good smacks and off it popped.

If its anything like my previous cars... im expectin it to be less than straightforward
