Radiator bleed screw thingy came off...

After spending the morning washing and polishing the car, then thinking why on earth am I selling it (or trying to)... I go to check the water level and decide to bleed the radiator, nomally a routine operation that I've done oodles of times before...

This time however, the bleed screws starts turning loose but it's not coming out... It turns out the metalwork that the bleed screw is screwed into has just come detached from radiator so I've now got a permanently vented cooling system and a car I can no longer drive :(

Any suggestions?

I was hoping I might find something that'll glue/weld/seal it back down but I can't get the bleed screw / bush thingy away from the radator metalwork at the moment so I can't see what I'm working with. Does anyone know how the threaded part of the bleed screw base is fixed to the radiator? Can it be removed/replaced/fixed without replacing the radiator or have I got yet another huge bill on the horizon...

It happened to me a few weeks ago. Just take the rad off and take it to your local radiator repair place, and they will braze a new one in for a few pounds.

Thanks - I've just finished soldering it back in place, currently breething a huge sigh of relief! I syphoned a couple of litres of water out, cleaned up the surfaces on both parts and was able to solder it back in place - bit like doing the plumbing for the central heating...

Anyway it's fixed!
