Clonking - what part is it?

Nope not shelf (I wish!). The near side rear CV joint. Bible says Sierra Cosworth. Has anyone done this? and is their anything I need to look out for.

There are a number of bolts (three iirc) which attach the diff to the car. The diff is not bolted straight to the car, bushes are used. If these bolts are loose or fall out (happened to me) then the diff can move more than it normally would as you go on and off the power. It's easily fixed and may explain a certain kind of clonk, which is why I replied to Jon. No need to worry about it.

Did you find it got worse over bumpy ground/uneven road surface even in neutral (as a test)? Its very bad and quite annoying with the roof down - Sounds like someone underneath tapping the chassis with a spanner.

Only noticed it going on/off the accelerator, which would make sense - torque being applied/removed from the prop shaft. Best thing to do is get your car to an expert - diagnosis over the internet is often not terribly accurate

It is off next week but its been looked at twice (once by previous owner - on sheet NFF (No Fault Found). Its been pulled tugged and tapped to find something loose, but so far nothing! - So its now off again.
