Fellow Tivvers - I need help - I drive the A19 Newcastle to Middlesbrough four times a week (90 miles round trip) in my cureton 400HC. This means I get to go through the Tyne Tunnel TWICE per trip (vroom vroom) - so I love going to work (yes...I'm that sad). Problem is whenever traffic slows to 65 I've got into the habit of dropping from 5th to 3rd and hoofing it up all the hills when there's a gap (if you use the road regularly you've seen me). Erm - every time, every trip
. I genuinely wish I could stop doing this as I now spend more time with Mrs Optimax than my wife. I guess I just need reassurance about fellow pistonheads' unshakeable habits .... cheers, Chris

CRACKLE-POP-CRACKLE, Chris
ps what WAS I thinking in '97 with that Reno 19? oh well...

Simon - funnily enuff I did the said newport tunnels last week while I was down near Cardiff for a meeting -had the roof targa stylee at the time and gawd wot a racket for the audi TT behind us (hee-hee). Clearly we need a 'tunnels anonymous' on PH, and lifetime subscrptions to Kellogs...or something.
ps check out those Kahns
on your Crystal Verde tiv - way cool...respect.

Craig - WAHAY - if there's anything better than one tiv in a tunnel... etc etc. I'm in all day polishing me headlights - watch out for those 22 gatsos on your way down from Edinburgh (also I think they've put digital ones at the hairpins up to the border, Scottish side)...brunch at 11?

M4, Newport tunnels.
Ditto in third. Last time a Landrover towing a caravan wound his window down and cupped his ear (or was he about to start folksy type yoddling
) then thumbs up as we thundered by. Also any bridges (nearly tunnel types)
Up on the Brecons I scare the sheep (WITH THE CAR! the other scareing wasn't proved!)
Who needs tunnels! Decat, and prepare for aural terrorism!
I don't know if its just that I haven't driven my Chim for nearly 2 years, but it does seem to be an awesome beast at the moment!
Went to work in Northampton today, and the A428 back to Rugby was a hoot. You need to pick overtaking spots carefully (narrow twisties), but when an opportunity arises and the blue touchpaper is lit, by heck it goes some! Massive wall of V8 sound in third as the scenery blurs, and the traffic you were behind flashes past like stars when the Enterprise hits warp speed! Nitrons working a treat keeping everything in line, and the 4 pot brakes hauling it all back as you slot back into line. F****g brilliant!
Must scare the bejasus out of the traffic I'm passing, it really does make a LOT of noise.

I know its sad but every time i see a tunnel ive got to drive through. Normally when in said tunnel hold in third at about 50mph, you get a good sound resounance from this style of driving (jesus this is sad).Best tunnels so far are the limehouse link in east london, and the underpass under london bridge, the cream was the trip to Duxford, me in my chimaera 7 cerberas and one tuscan all going through the dartford tunnel together. The business.........
As observed from following cars, Chimeras mainly. Mini convoy, leading cars go by, sheep docile. Big bad Wedge and yells of mint sauce, woolies go nuts and scarper. (drop a gear as well)
Of the opinion that the more active they are, the better the quality when it gets to my plate
And if I had a spare tenner, fuel wins I'm afraid
