Steering Lock?
Discussion
I have an early Chim (registered May 93) and it doesn't appear to have a steering lock. Is this normal or could it be broken?
I understand the column is from a Cavalier and I would have guessed that they had steering locks fitted at that time. I'm just curious, it's never been a problem.
Thanks

Probably find the block that moved into the column to restrict movement has siezed /stuck, ideally you'd drop the barrel assembly off the column and lubricate the moving parts, mines the same but I sprayed through the key entry, which freed mine up for a bit, but its stopped locking again now.

To avoid straining things, jack the front wheels off the ground and with the key out rotate the steering from lock to lock.It maybe that the column shaft has not been put back in the correct place like my mine and doesn't lock in the straight ahead position, job for me to rectify when I renew the UJ's.

Possibly disabled/removed by previous owner? Some people don't like them if doing track days?
Never heard of that, why would they do that then.Interesting

Do you have an immobiliser?
I appreciate that your insurers might have something to say about the lack of a steering lock if your car got stolen, but the immobiliser will do far more to deter a thief than a steering lock - any worthwhile car thief knows how to break the steering lock.
I never lock my car when it is parked at home, because I reckon any thief will do more money's worth of damage breaking in than they will stealing anything I have left in it. I never leave stuff in the car, and they would need the key to get into the boot.
The radio? My nearly new Sony head unit cost me £25 off the local Facebook Marketplace.
Finally, as yours doesn't have electronic door release buttons, a well hidden Battery Brain will make your car far more theft proof than a steering lock.
It keeps the clock and the radio connected, but completely disconnects all electrics at the press of a remote control button on your keyring.
