Master Brake Cylinder

Master Brake Cyclinder has gone, have got a price of £450 all in (parts, labour, VAT).

Does this sound reasonable?

I seem to recall the part is £40 to £50 so seems expensive.But i'm not sure whats involved in changing it.Can't be very technical though

Just had mine changed by Austec.
According to Paul it is a Fiesta Sport part with an extra bleed'nipple'!
TVR wanted about £200 + fitting etc for the part and Paul wants about £50 + fitting etc.
About a 3.5 hour jobby.
Who got the job??
Been away so still got to collect the car and see the final bill tho'

Got mine done at Castle TVR last year, fairly sure it was less than that.

Did the change a couple of weeks ago...

Part is from a Fiesta.. BUT some after market ones are slightly longer and dont fit.

Mine was replaced by one from a scrapy (£5) and it is a big job as you need to loosen the pedel box to get enough access.

3 hours is reasonable if you are pre warned of the steps needed... plus bleading down all the brakes.

So, an expensive part (£94.23 + VAT), and 6 hours labour from an independent doesn't sound like such a good deal... hmmm, will have to have a chat with them!

And whilst they were fitting it, they broke something else, meaning that:

a) I couldn't have the car over the weekend, missing out on a very important first date

b) have to shell out another £150!

Total cost for repair £591.25.

Now, I know these cars are expensive to run, but this all seems a bit much. Won't name in public but...

DIY job... parts £40 in total. Labour £0 (but paid in blood,sweat and tears!!)

Apparently, something was siezed up, "it happens sometimes". That said, picked it up last night, and it is a joy to have brakes that work properly. Think that it must have been deteriorating over time, so didn't notice it! Scary stuff....

Almost as scary as the list of things that also need doing. Tyres all deformed, various gaiters split/perished, chassis corroded, diff making nasty clunking noises...

It was all fine at the MOT in February - might be time for a second opinion.

As for doing the work myself, along with blood, sweat and tears comes tools, and a slight ineptness in using them. At least when you pay a professional you can some come back...
