6 fireman, a policeman and loads of neighbours

I get home to a note through my door which says that the fire brigade have attended my car. I am pleased to say that it was not a fire, but some kind of fuel leak.

The tank was full, and parked on a camber so that the fuel fill cap was quite low. It appears that some fuel seeped out and ran down the gully, over the light seal coroding the rubber and then onto the floor.

I was not there, but a neighbour tells me that 6 firemen came out, a policeman and loads of neighbours stood around whilst they cleared the fuel from the road.

The questions I have are:


Has this happened to anyone else?

Could it have been that a hot sunny day made the fuel expand through the filler cap?

Do I have a more serious problem?

This happened to several cars on the banking at Brooklands whilst parked some time ago.

Bit scary as we all drove off!

quite a fright I should imagine finding the note and reading the first line only.
Heat will make the fuel expand a fair bit and if the tank was topped very high then it could easily overflow past the filler cap. Certainly think about a new one as the seal is sure to be knackered now if it wasnt before
