What the signal coming into the TVR fuel gauge looks like? I'm guessing it's 0-5v?

The reason I ask is that I'm looking to read whatever signal the fuel level sender puts out with an arduino and am wondering what kind of voltage range to plan for and whether it need scaling or just protecting against spikes...

Won't the fuel sender just be a resistance reading to ground?

12volt into the gauge (sometimes via a voltage stabiliser) then the gauge just reads a resistance through the sender to earth.
