Oil Confusion

There have been numerous threads on here about which oil to use in the RV8 engined cars. Opinion usually coming down on the side of fully synthetic oil such as 15w - 50 Mobil 1 or equivalent.

Last year had my '98 Chim 4L seviced at the factory and they put in Carlube 0w-40 fully synthetic. This year they have put in Q8 10w - 50 semi sythtetic.
"Experience has shown that these engines run better on semi synthetic, so that's what we're now using. You'll find that's what some other TVR engine specialists are now using sir"

So if this is true, why have they been using fully synthetic up to now? :confused:

I spoke to TVR Power last week and they are recomending a semi as well. The oil man recomends a 10w-50 fully synthetic, and I use the mobil 1 15w-50 along with alot of other people. So take your pick, but a 0w-40 is probably a bit too thin on start up.

Are they still charging the fully synthetic price though.
Nothing wrong with semi-synth, just change it regularly as i noticed you may only have the oil changed once a year. Do an intermediate yourself. Should cost you no more than £25.

From last years service bill (12,000miles)
Oil & Lubricants £88.37 inc VAT

From this years bill (6000miles)

Oil & Lubricants £88.37 inc VAT

Hmmmmmm.......

Owing to a combination of ciurcumstances, my mileage between these services was actually only around 3000 miles. The bloody stuff had hardly time to get dirty!
