Wet weather advice please !!!
Discussion
Ok so have posted on this before and took steps so here is the problem
Sopping wet in drivers footwell , but I’ve been tackling this for few weeks now , read the bible on measures to take
So need some pointers but.....here’s what I’ve done , car outside not being driven on slight incline nose pointing down no wetness anywhere else except floor of drivers footwell soaking the floor mat nothing above this have been in there with torch and had people pouring water over set areas to establish the leak but nothing..........
Car has had a Leven hood cover on so this should rule out hood and wipers etc as these are all covered and to some extent the door seals , door seals are dry , I’ve resealed all the inner wing items like cables grommets brake res , and anywhere water is likely to go and I’ve had someone pouring water on these items to check for leaks and don’t see any water leaking but for the past few weeks every time I open car the floor mat is soaking wet (not being driven) and I’ve dried it out the week before so this has got wet with car sitting there with Leven cover fitted !
It’s never leaked before and all year sat outside in the rain without a single leak and without Leven cover , I used the cover to rule out hot leaks and it had leaked before I started using the cover so can’t be that either , carpets under the seats are bone dry as too the passenger side all dry , boot is dry just the drivers footwell and at the bottom nothing on carpets on tunnel or sides are dry at a loss now has have tried everything via advice on here and the bible and sealed everything I can think of so if cover is over wipers etc where could rain be getting in just this specific area as I say door seals are dry and bodywork inside doors and these area have no water ?
I don’t want to use a full cover due to the hassle and risk to paint work (I have one ) but you hear so many issues relating to full covers and I like the Leven cover even though my hood don’t leak !!
Is there something I’ve missed ? It’s starting to be a pain in the ass as you can literally see the water pouring out from the floor mat/carpet when removed so it’s a lot of water !

TVR engineer ! Drill hole in floor love it ! Think that where I’m at now , it’s just that if....I’m ever out driving and it rains would the water not get into the drilled holes ?
Yes I’ve had someone pouring water over wings , doors etc windscreen but no obvious signs ???? I’ve heard of windscreen seals and wipers but with the Leven cover surly this rules out this !

Try parking it slightly down hill or is it the other way round?
Mine used to fill up when parked up but more when parked nose down and then pool on the lower dash shelf then run onto my legs first time I used the brakes.
I had a new windscreen which solved the problem so either Central Tvr plugged any other possible holes or a new windscreen rubber which is a bed of mastic solved the water ingress.
It’s also known to come in via the door seals but very hard to detect as it drips off lower door seal rather than soak into side carpet. Various ways of solving this including pinching the seal near the front of the door aperture so when water runs down the rear door part of the rubber and along it can’t pool, the pinch allows it to escape down and out.
If you have a Leven cover that should not be an issue.
Wiper mesh rivets, jet pipe holes need a dab of mastic when fitting, not sure many were done properly if at all.
Again Leven cover should remove this possibility so must be running down somewhere near the front.
Try applying a sponge type rag near master cyl and seeing if it delays or reduces the water ingress. Water likes to travel down hill or needs a path to follow like running along pipes etc, tracing leaks is a science in itself as it always baffles me.

Do the door seals have the indentation in the lower seal?
No, one way is to pinch a tiny hole out of the outer seal section and pump some glue in and press it back and onto the part that fits around door opening, thus leaving an indentation.I did this but sadly the water was getting in from other areas

The last time my Chimaera had water in the foot well it was due to the brake fluid reservoir seal. It looked perfectly fine, but if I got hold of the reservoir I could moved it plus the seal from side to side. In fact the seal was not attached to the body at all!

Look for ways that the water could come in from the inner wings.
I don't think my car leaks because it's kept in the garage and I don't drive it in the rain generally but if it is raining, I'll take the Porsche

As a couple of others have said, there should be indentations in the lower door seal, this allows any collected water to drip out rather than in. Also check that the entire door seal is fully pushed onto the body. I had a case, with symptoms just like yours, where the horizontal section below the window (or above the door speaker) had detached so water was coming in there.

I think this becomes a weak point as my door rubber has been squashed in this very area and now shows signs of poor sealing against door so may well leak in there during heavy rain. It only takes a trickle of water and gently running down a seal to end up as a big puddle over a few hours heavy rain when stationary, secret is to drive it more as rain seems to run off better when travelling at high speed
Ok great I know I have the indentations as noticed them before and understood they are there for this but......I’ve not looked in this area for this water issue so will now focus attention in this area and check they are seated correctly etc TBF it would make sense that this is the issue looking at where the water is and the heavy rain we have had recently

^^^ Exactly this. I could have written this word for word as I found exactly the same thing. Bob
