Speedometer Illumination

Since I've had the car, the backlighting on this dial is half as bright as the others. I assume a bulb has blown. How easy is it to replace and is it a DIY fix ?

I think... but I'm not certain, that this is a TADTS. Like the speedo only has half as many bulbs in it so is half as bright.

My speedo and tacho are half as bright as all the other dials.

Tacho's fine. Just the speedo that's dimmer.
That's TVR for you. Anyone got a different combo ?

Yep... speedo is half as bright as all the other dials... .. it's a TVR "undocumented feature"...

Still not worked out why I'd want to turn off the illumation though ... at least in my S I could adjust the brightness...

I understand in some models the speedo has only one illumination bulb as opposed to two for the tacho.

If you are anal like me you can get a brighter blub, or have a second one fitted.

To do it yourself you would need to take the dash to bits...something I am far too apprehensive to do myself. Get a sparky or your mechanic to do it next time something else more vital needs looking at in there.

I replaced the speedo bulb in my Chimaera with a brighter one too. Worked a treat.

The speedo in my 94 4L has the digital mileage meter (and no trip) and when I changed the dash I found 2 bulb holders with 1 blown bulb, which I replaced with a 4 watt. Trouble is when I have the dash lights on after a while the heat from the bulb blacks out the mileage meter. I now need to run with the dash lights off until I can be a***d to take the dash top off again.

Speedo normally has one bulb, and yes you can fit a higher wattage and even up the brightness.

So that one's face isn't illuminated and no-one can see the look of abject terror on it as the car gets sideways around a wet roundabout.

Or is that just me?
