Hi everybody,

I have now pulled the trigger to finally go for a repaint of my Mk3 Chim as there are some cracks appearing from a former poorly repaired damage on the rear end. My car is now cooper green and I am planning on doing a darker, non-metallic green which should go well with the green roof and green interior - pics below. A more classic British combination is what I hope to achieve..

Could anyone advise me on how to obtain the (or a) right colour code for dark British racing green? I know it is not just one colour and although I searched the PH archive and googled quite a bit, I am still left clueless as to what request at the painter. The last two pictures below are from an E-Type, I made these pictures at Goodwood nearly a decade ago and that colour/shade is more or less what I am looking for.

Many thanks for your help in advance!

Cheers,
Thijs

Any decent automotive paint supplier should be able to make that for you, it will be on a paint database to mix to order.

First hit on Google for "British racing green" returns this;

Paint mixes are listed near the end of the article.

Here is a list of TVR paint codes, might be useful.

Thanks all, I went for non-metallic Brooklands and pretty happy with the result sofar - still have to see the car in real life but pictures look promising.

I thought of swapping the headlight lenses for yellow ones as old French cars have for a more bespoke look, think it would complement the exterior colour pretty well. Now I cannot find anything about the origin of this lens (assuming it is a part TVR bought, not developed). Would anyone know more about the lenses and/or availability in yellow?

I've seen many of the old French cars that appear to be painted. Having searched for it it appears you can get it or yellow film. However the same search brings up results saying that you can only have yellow headlights on pre 1993 cars as after which euro regs outlaw it. That said it's a TVR so why should regs bother you when it didn't bother the factory.

Correct, when the legislation changed and white lamps were authorized, it was easy to just change bulbs on the majority of cars. However, some manufacturers made the choice to have tinted glass.
A usual trick was to "clean" lenses with brake fluid, it was very efficient to remove the yellow layer.
