Under bonnet photos please
Discussion
Just about finished under the car and now looking at improving my under bonnet area, just wondering what others have done and any advise on doing such things, it’s a 500 and the rocker covers need doing, paint or plastic coating??, anyone know the paint code ??, on the drivers side the solid water pipes going to the internal heater are a mess, the fuel rails as well, apart from that it’s generally polishing up all the aluminium stuff, I would prefer to refurbish rather than replace items so any advice or photos from this area would be greatly appreciated
Where do you begin!
When you hate Shields if they have gone home
Definitely do rocker boxes
Replace hoses but not in blue silicon! Keep to black.
Replace power steering hoses if original
You can powder coat the plenum or remove it, work on it and bring it up to scratch
Renew the intake houses and the usual smoothbore elbow
Clean up windscreen wiper and mounts et cetera if an early car
Renew plug leads and make an effort to route them sensibly
Remove and paint flame trap
Clean up everything else as best you can
There are loads of cars out there far better than mine. If PH hadn't f
ked up their image loading I would put one up............

I already have the blue silicon water hoses, new leads, in black, alll the heat shields are pretty good although the black around the shield on the underside of the bonnet know looks like a crackle finish, is that just old paint ?
First step is to remove the coolant, is there an easy way to do that without it filling up the inside of the front section ?

Refurb those rocker covers and as above hose clips etc etc , prep seems to take a while but it all comes together and you''ll be glad you did
remove that bonnet key up the loose flaky bits and satin black whatever , this was achieved for little time & elbow grease and about 30 quid outlay inc the silver heat reflective mat ................

Wow, that’s certainly some inspirational photos, I think I should have started at the beginning of the winter rather than now, and nothing there is OTT, they all look great.
Is it possible with an extreme amount of spit and polish to change my exhaust system from what I have to what I see in the photos ???, and how on earth did mach2 polish the aluminium parts to that level ??, I thought my plenum tapered section had a rough cast finish??, my wiring is a mess, is that trunking like on Bobfathers a split pipe so it can be opened up and fed over or do you need to remove all the plugs etc and feed the wires through ??,
Obviously I have a long way to go, but at least I can make a start on it

The plenum was rough cast but I just spent a lot of time and effort with progressively smoother grit on an electric sander and then buffing wheels with lighter compound paste with an electric drill until I was happy with the finish. I did the same with the exhaust Y piece and manifolds and also the rocker covers if you zoom in on the photo. Weirdly I found it a very relaxing exercise!
