Chimaera 4.0 engine rebuild

hello everyone.

We're having a 1995 Chim 4.0 that is - apart from the engine - in pretty perfect condition.
The crankshaft parent bore is wrong and hence a major rebuild of the engine is required. The cylinder head and camshaft require rebuild/restauration as well.

We anticipate to bring the car to southern UK for the engine rebuild. Anyone any suggestions on whom to contact and what costs we're facing?

Hi Per. The five spoke alloys on the green one look superb.
Don't know what Tim has said but he does have very good contacts. Re: the engine - in your position I would definitly consider trading in your old engine and replacing with a 4.5 (also known as a 4.6) Considering the cost to you of transport I doubt that it will put much onto the bill and will give you an up to date version of the V8.

thanks 19560.. I see your point with the up2date engine. thing is, it's not quiet the most wanted option because in switzerland it'd be a real pain (and expensive as well) to get it through the swiss TUV (paperwork, street permissions) and crap.

Hence rather have the existing one rebuild. If this aint an option, of course will consider another engine ..

A company based Near Northampton called LynxAE are pretty good. They can rebuild the engine an rolling road tune it for you. I have no idea what kind of price they would charge though probably best to give them a call.

I think the original 4.0 Plenum badge will fit on a 4.5

I had an engine rebuild at 50k miles on my 4.0. Like you I decided to keep the original engine and it cost about 3.5k to fix (but alot needed replacing as oil pump had gone).
A local mechanic did it very well and the car has never run better. The mechanic spoke to Dom at TVR Power, who was extremely helpful, and sent all the parts over. I could have sent the whole engine to TVR Power for fixing and upgrade, but decided not to, as wanted to keep mechanicals as original as possible.

I would second that, there is no visible difference between a 4.0 and a 4.5, or a 5.0 for that mater. And who would know? Appart from the entire PH community!
