Hi Chaps

My car is about ready to go for a respray now and I want to take the opportunity to do something with that rubber black strip on the rear bumper. - i just cant bring myself to like it.

Has anyone removed this and filled it in so its smooth? Or, perhaps fashioned it to look like the later model rear bumper? If anyone has any pics of theirs that would be great!

Thanks Qbee! I have never seen one - so can’t imagine it’s common. Might look a bit “MaxPower” smoothed over ....?

Hi OP, I have had the version you have had and also the later version with a moulded section that is painted and stands proud by approx 30mm. For me, I would keep the runner strip for practical reasons.

Without the rubber strip, every time something comes into to contact, even lightly, it’s the paint that gets it and chipped paint looks a lot worse than an aged piece of rubber.

You might even see this on the rubber that’s there. Every little chip, scratch and crease in the rubber would be damaged paint.

I was talking to Ian @ Sportmotive about this a little while back. He has done various things like this to make a MK1 a MK2. Might be worth speaking to Ian.

Looks good Magpies!

I can’t say thats not an issue TV8, my big concerned was getting it inside my small internal Garage - so am carpeting the walls up to waist hight, but your right about the paint looking worse

Sounds like a plan Rockits! I will drop Ian a line and go from there!

Then all I need to decide on is what I’m replacing those rear fiesta lights with!!

Probably the easiest thing is cut out the rear sections and replace with the later pod ones as in the later cars with the 4 separate lights.
You could effectively create a complete Mk2/3 rear end, although I agree with TV8, I thought having the later rear end elevates the car until some bugger brushes it or bumps it, looks ste forever then!
I’ve grown attached to the earlier rear end, the dark light covers, the flatter boot line, I followed a few TVR Mates on a run out and liked it for some reason, I think the rubber bit is practical and does a good job of protecting against small damage that ruins the look anyway. I have a small chunk out the paintwork on mine from some fkwit, it wouldn’t be a problem with the rubber strip.

I much prefer the look of the earlier cars from the outside .. mesh front grille and rubber rear bumper.
I'd want the later serp engine, t5 gearbox and silver rimmed dials though .. so I'd be creating a mk1/mk2 hybrid but the opposite way round to most people it seems.

Hmmmmmm your all starting to sway me again! I do like the earier style front grille - and I do see the practical side of the rubber... Im changing the colour to Redbull Blue, Lupo light conevrsion (without the plastic cowl) and anthracite SP12's. so quite a fresh look i think. I like the look of Centrals 4 pod rear lights - and I like the dark contrast that comes with the afterburners - so need to decide!

To be honest, my bodywork sat in a field for 10 years and just looks awfull - so maybe with a tart up that rubber strip may look appealing.

I love how many different variants of these cars there are and all differing opinions of the TVR community!! Thanks all!
