I have a suspicion my head gasket has just failed, or at the very least a hose has split and the water pump is failing?

This hose (on the left side from sitting in the car, just behind the swirl pot and I assume going into the water pump) -

Definitely split, as you can see. Before I took the picture, the reason I noticed it was because there was some brown mayoy stuff in/on the split parts, a bit of which you can see at the bottom.

A pic of a little (I wiped off the first lot before taking a picture) -

However, my oil on the dipstick is clean (split hose circled in red again) -

The coolant in the expansion tank is also fine (but I could only see a little, not long come back from a drive so couldn't take off the swirl pot cap to check) and the oil in the head, from what I can see, looks fine.

Car ran fine as well, temps were fine etc so if it is the gasket, it can't have long gone. Unless I am wrong about this hose being a coolant hose into the water pump?

Ok, thank you. That is a relief! While still not good, much better than a head gasket!

And just for information, not all head gasket failures result in coolant in oil and vice versa.,only when the bridge part between those passages fail, gasket can leak elsewhere.

You can buy a kit of hoses to fix that.
Most owners fit the kit because they cannot stop fluid leaking from the U bend you can see behind your split hose.

Yes, it's a nice kit and easy to fit especially if you don't want the trouble of having your own hoses made up. Completely cures the u-bend problem.
