Chim Dash Crack

I have the veneer dash and I have noticed a crack that seems to have formed pretty quickly just to the right if the Rev Counter. The crack almost meets the leather at the top and bottom of the dash.
Anyone have any ideas about this and what could cause it? I am worried it seems to have occured so quickly.

It is nothing to be worried about, well not mechanically or structurally. Should be purely cosmetic.
Believe that it is something to do with the glue which was used to stick the veneer to the metal backing was not fexible enough. In some cases which causes cracking as the veneer and metal backing expand and contract at slightly different rates in the heat.
Based on other people's experience this will slowly continue and appear here and there on your dash and is probably the reason why you see so many alloy dash's out there. But in most cases it is a slow process hopefully shouldn't need any attention for a couple of years.

Funny that
just spent an hour or so tidying up the car - this 'n that, and did a fix on the dash - same problem, same place and bits around the radio. What I have seems to be actual shrinkage on a P reg. I found best to detach the cracked bits - meant extending the crack and breaking a section off which felt a bit horrendous to do. however being a bit bold paid off - stuck the bits of the jigsaw back carefully with evostick and repair is quite effective - I know it's there but you have to look fairly closely to notice it - passes for casual inspection.
