2nd gear woes

My 98 Griff 500 is great and I luv it to bits..

Couple of things though..

Response in 2nd gear is not as good as response in most other gears, relatively speaking, maybe its me but there seems to be a abit of a flat spot around the speeds usually associated with 2nd, is it me or the car?. Response in all other gears still suprises me. Any ideas?

Should I be worried if there is slight 'top endy' rattle as the revs come down whilst in neutral.
