Stepper motor

Hi guys. Can someone please give me some idea where the stepper motor is located on serp engined 4.0.1995.
Sounds like the probs I am having are likely to be this. Guess it just needs cleaning. Any tips???

Middle of the windscreen in engine bay, under the black honeycombe.

Just don't try to tighten it up too much when you have finished - you'll break it.

Might be something else (but it is always a good idea to keep the stepper clean anyway).

The problem is strange. When we have done around 100-150 miles fairly fast driving be it motorway or normal roads, without warning there is one hell of a flat spot at around 2000 rpm. If you try and drive at a steady throttle below 2500 the shunting effect is v.bad. Even above these revs the car feels vague in throtle response?? Park up for 10 mins, re-start and it seems a lot better for , maybe 40 miles. This is accompanied by an exhaust and rear end full of sooty deposits. ( No sweep jokes please.!!!!) The strange thing is that this never happened for the first 1500 miles i had the car, also, a buzzing for a second when ignition is turned off ( When turned on to open boot and then off it is most apparent.) was never audible but sinse this problem started i have the buzz, which i am assuming is the stepper motor returning. Therefore , if all was ok with stepper not working and stuck, is it now working and the problems started?? also the other thing concerning me is the blanking cover over the adjusting screw on the air flow meter is missing !!! is there an easy way of setting this or is it trial and error ??

Isn't it wonderful how a few pictures can save a thousand words. The bible is good, but more picture boards like this would make it great.

Hum, try a search for airflow meter and adjustsing screw - remember this coming up before. Maybe on the Griff forum.
As for the other bits, if it doesn't improve with a stepper clean and good wiggle/check of all the HT leads for security, I will be very surprised! (mine had a stalling problem until I found the stepper was clean but very loose). So, have a good check/tighten before you start spending money! save that for!

I have always heard the noise of a distressed frog from the bonnet when I turn the engine off. After 30K miles without any associated problems I'm assuming that the frog is a masochist and has no intention of either escape or revenge.
