Time to replace my ageing pipercross foam air filter as it’s looking a bit tatty now.
Do you stick with the pipercross or go k&n ?
A link to where you purchased would be good too thumbup
Thanks

I went piper cross / OEM when I changed mine recently. I cannot remember who I bought it from in the end, but either race tech or TVR parts.
I did consider a K & N, but didn’t for the following reasons:
On an otherwise standard engine, an air filter alone won’t make any noticeable performance gain, unless the old one was seriously choked.
On the Griff it is stuck up the nose cone and cannot be seen.
It was a bit more expensive (but not a lot).
The only place at the time who had the correct K & N in stock were ACT, who, err, didn’t have it in stock.

I would be careful with after market or filters that are not specifically aimed at our cars. Unusually large displacement engines suck in way more air than normal 4 pot engines. Performance loss and rich burn via air restriction and the potential for the filter to be sucked into the combustion air ductwork should be a consideration

I got my K&N through Powers I think. About 11 years ago.

I like the K&N one as it does last years.
One thing I have noticed is it has deformed slightly. This can onlt have been formed from great suction!
It’s a big filter designed to handle the air flow but it has collapsed slightly.
I’m just wondering if at full chat when doing the 1/4 mile it might have been restricting air flow at the top end biggrin

99% of all other driving I think it’s more than capable.
About £50 I seem to remember.

Act have the k&n listed but looks like it’s out of stock.

All I know is bigger the better. Defo had a few runs where my starts were really fast but slowed a tad at the end. Could be as simple as over loading the filter. It’s always had a deep induction roar since MBE install and removal of the AFM, it’s very obvious the engine sounds like it sucks more.

A larger one would require moving it into air stream a bit too. Not so good in bad weather.
Overall now my cars just for road use it’s the right one for the car. Try Powers if you want the correct one. Not sure if they sell them but Dom has a canny knack of having just about everything there smile

I went to K&Nt direct. I spoke to the technical department and they asked for capacity and power output to select the correct filter.

The one below was the only one that my 5.5 would work with. As you can see it's quite big so I increased the diameter of the tube to the triple platinum to 100 mm and mounted the filter below the headlight in the nearside inner wing .

A K&N is definitely the way forward, it pays for itself over time because you can clean it and re-oil a K&N so easily.

I've had my PX spun alloy cone filter for 17 years. Easy to clean and oil, lasts well, looks good, sounds nice, performs well.

They still sell this type of spun cone filter although not identical. Looks in good condition but I do wonder what a reasonable life would be for the interior foam. Mixed reviews of K&N in other applications but popular in TVR circles

Prefer the Piper X units TBH they may get dirtier quicker but they filter better than the K&N and can be cleaned easily enough scratchchin at what they cost I just renew them , both brands flow plenty however

The likes of powers etc don't stock them anyway.
I will just stick to a standard pipercross.
