steering rack oil seal
Discussion
Hi guys
i have a small leak at the point where the steering column is attached to the rack. It is only a slight leak but now is a good time to get these little annoying
jobs done.Has anyone managed to change this seal with the rack insitu, and can anyone tell me if this is the correct seal.

Agree with Steve ^ but if your struggling that pinion assembly can be removed and serviced on the bench
cleanliness both on removal and assembly is essential however
done 2 like this because I feared marking the shaft where the seal runs
not really justified in practice but the cars were not mine and I didnt want to take the chance

Apologies for thread hijack, but the white dust cover is not present on my car (97 face lift) I've looked at the usual suppliers but cant see one listed. Are they still available? I guess a suitably sized cap/bottle top with a hole punched out for the shaft would be better than nothing Ta
