I wonder could anyone tell me if there is a spare dash light I could utilise for a gear shift light?
I see what looks like a light in the Rev counter, and the 2 top leds which I’ve no idea what they are for.
I’m using megasquirt which has a programmable output for this purpose, my rev counter gets a bit erratic after 5000 rpm so I’d like to add a light to let me know where I am!

On my 1998 Chim, I used the "spare" light in the rev counter to come on when my AFR went off the scale. So you should be able to use it as a shift light. I don't know what the other 2 leds are.

The lamp in the tacho should be spare and has a bulb holder so gives you the option of finding the brightest LED for the job.

The other LEDs vary from car to car but could be..
  • MIL but most cars do not have this function active in the ECU map.
  • Inertia switch. Tells you you have had a crash.
  • Handbrake/fluid level
  • Ice warning. changes colour. Most cars this is no longer working as the sensor in the front grill has rotted away. (but easily replaced).

Thanks both, looks like the tacho one is ideal.

My last 1996 Chimaera had a dash like that. On mine, the top green led was for the indicators, the middle yellow one was oil pressure triggered, the bottom red one was the immobiliser.

The tacho will most likely already have a bulb holder and bulb in it (probably BA9s size), you can get an LEDs in this size of various colours.
