Sorry this is very vague as I'm not that technical, but I had exactly the same problem. There is a 'hot fix' that installs a stand alone relay, to give more oomph to the starter motor. On my car this relay was dangling free behind the footwell carpet and had become disconnected, then ultimately it failed.
If you can locate it, then its a 10 minute check for you, before I assume the more technically minded on the Forum will come up with a few more scientific pieces of advice.

If the engine is not turning over it could be one of several things.
Is the battery fully charged? Is the main engine earth OK? Is the main starter cable making good contact?
You state that the starter motor is recent, connect battery +ve direct to the solenoid to see if it turns over. If not try direct on the starter motor as the solenoid could be faulty or sticking.
Having proved that the starter and battery are OK the fault must lie between the ignition switch and the solenoid or that no volts are reaching the ignition.

You do need to systematically eliminate each component or you will just go round in circles.
COG on here has immobiliser bypass instructions.

I tried starting the car up after the winter but no luck. The fuel pump primes but then nothing, the lights do not dip and tried it with jump leads but no change. The car was working when last out in December. Any ideas?
Without jump leads connected, attempt to crank and see if dash lights dim a littleIf the main engine earth is good, no dimming of the dash lights points to no supply from starter switch to starter solenoid
Loss of the supply could be a wiring fault at any point of the circuit/loom although immobiliser/alarm faults are often found to be the cause
Is the crank cable connected to the solenoid ? Could have come adrift
Sounds like it could be the immobiliser. The immobiliser relay for the starter motor can get stuck after not being used for a while

The immobiliser unit is behind the dashboard directly in front of the passenger seat. So in the passed with the same issue, I have held the key in the start/cranking position and after being sure the fuel pump has run, while still holding the key in the start/crank position firmly hit the top of the dash in front of the passenger seat. This is often enough the free the sticking relay and start the car.
