Did you source standard parts or had to make anything special?

It a job on my list of things to do while in lock down. Seems a nice little project

I'd already replaced the aluminium stay with 8mm stainless steel round bar. The tube is 12mm OD with 1.5mm wall thickness. I just used the original bottom ball socket fitting it to a length of M6 threaded bar secured into the bottom of the tube. The latch is basically a 3mm pin that slides into holes in the 8mm bar. That’s great- much better than the old broom handle I use to extend bonnet opening :-)
