So I think I have a form of hot start issue, but not the typical one that leaves you stranded for 15-20 mins luckily!

Basically after turning it off after a good run out, il come to restart it and all il get is a clunk from the starter, the pump primes fine. After 4-6 more turns of the key and 4-6 more clunks, it will actually turn over and fire fine. I replaced the starter last year and upgraded the starter cable at the beginning of this year.

Now I don’t believe the car runs the meta immobiliser anymore as I have the port on the dash where the fob would go into but it doesn’t do anything and I also have a cobra alarm.

Could this mean the classic hot start fault isn’t a suspect? Could the starter already be cooked?

Thanks all

This symptom can be caused by pressurised coolant entering the cylinder (e.g. from a duff head gasket) when the engine is stopped, and hydrolocking a cylinder. Inspection of the spark plugs may reveal a suspiciously clean one...

You could start by removing the starter and lubing up the solenoid, they do get cooked.

As Belle427 said, or possibly a bad connection somewhere to the starter solenoid causing a volt drop

If it was hydro locking due to a failed head gasket when it fired up it would misfire till the cylinder as purged the coolant thus allowing full combustion and a big puff of white smoke (burnt coolant) would emit from the tail pipes (presuming its not got only tap water fitted) more than likely a failing starter , dont let the so called hot-start problem cloud things rolleyes whats happening is the starter solenoid is throwing the pinion into the flywheel but not crossing/switching the contacts to operate the electric motor itself , its quite a common failure in the starter motor world , on Jap stuff these contacts are easily changed but not on the Bosch style starter its an integral part of the solenoid frown Mickey Mouse starter brand possibly? scratchchin

To be honest I think I bought the cheapest starter I could find!
