Houston ..we have a problem
Discussion
Just been out to fill up with premium fuel to take advantage of cheaper prices.
Found that my usual station has modified the fuel filler heads.to incorporate sanitary sleeves.
The problem is that the increase in size means it is impossible to get the nozzle under the boot lid and into the
filler neck which ever way you try..
Here in darkest Lincolnshire filling stations are already thin on the ground and I am hoping that the new filler are not
going to be rolled out generally otherwise a modification to the boot lid will be required.

I have a mark 2 and love the fact that the boot opens fully.
It makes stowing the roof so much easier, especially as i have an aftermarket roof where the whole lot goes into the boot.
What we need here is someone who has found/created a conversion for the mark 1 boot hinges/gas lifts so that it opens fully.

My last Chimaera was a '96 and I considered putting a longer strut on. But the hinge body / boot lid mounting hits against itself and wouldn't open much further. You need a post 1999 boot lid and mechanism I suppose.
It came in later than the usual facelift mirror body door buttons / front end / rear lamps.
Steve Edwards did a mod involving Lupo bonnet hinges:

This might be worth a read. Hope it helps.

Bit concerning this! Which stations, as in brand? Are they all bringing this in?
As already suggested - a large funnel appears to be the [very simple] solution.I have found an alternate solution. After looking at the thread linked above, did some more searching and found this thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I have just received and fitted the same strut as ChimpOnGas fitted, and it fits perfectly and extends the boot opening enormously, to the point I will not get the boot hinge modification I had been planning on (since I had bought this car).
It was about £27 including shipping, which I thought was well worth it.
I took a slightly clearer pic of the part number - GS8-18-220-280.

A worthwhile modification just to aid getting the roof in.

Brilliant, thank you. SGS is asking what force is required, 50 to 700N - what did you specify?I have just received and fitted the same strut as ChimpOnGas fitted, and it fits perfectly and extends the boot opening enormously, to the point I will not get the boot hinge modification I had been planning on (since I had bought this car).
