Default seat spacers?
Discussion
Hello all!
I've just removed my driver's seat and found that there are spacers at the front of the seat to raise it an inch or so.
Are these a default fitment. I'm 6'2 and could do with a little more height. Seeing as they are just at the front, they may not really give me more space.
Has anyone removed them, if they had them..and did you find it was an improvement?
Many thanks,
Mark

Lotus Elise seats I believe give you a lower sitting position, but I would have to check.
A good friend had some in his car (now sold), and he is 6 ft 3in.
The Chimaera seat is actually pretty low down, as I found out when trying to source alternatives with more side support.
You can try my car, which is fitted with Tuscan seats, if you want to try before you spend the thick end of £1000 on an alternative set.
The other problem with most seats is that they are too wide, either at the seat level or at the shoulder.
MX5 seats are another possible.

The front edge of the seat being raised gives a little bit of thigh support (not much admittedly). You may find it more uncomfortable with the seat flat. The pedals will also 'feel' like they've been raised slightly.
I have seen a Chimaera with Boxster seats fitted!

Hey folks,
Please allow me to add one question that comes up at my end, since I also contemplate to remove spacer bracket from the seat of the Chimaera that I just bought:
If there are 4 spacers applied an if I remove all of them - are new holes to be drilled or can the seat mounts be reattached by using the existing holes?
Best regards,
Max

There are only 2 box section spacers and they are at the front of the seat rails.
The spacer does a few things
1. Lifts the front of the seat to support the thighs
2. stops the seat rubbing on the carpet
3. pushes the bolt which goes through the floor about 2 inches rearwards into strengthened parts of the floor
4. gives a small amount of twist to the seat, meaning you can align the seat left/right a little.
It isn’t possible to just remove them without either drilling new holes or fitting flat spacers.
Fitting flat spacers isn’t so easy as the box section of the original spacer allows a nut/bolt to attach it to the rail. This can’t be used with a flat spacer. The spacer needs to be tapped and the bolt needs to be round Allen head to fit in the seat rail and allow it to turn to tighten.
