Hi guys,

So it looks like I need a new indicator switch scratchchin

The issue is not actually the indicators as such, but the headlight dip/main beam on the same left hand stalk. The issue seems to be my Leven ally stalks are heavier than the original Mk3 Cavalier plastic stalks, so over the years they have weakened the return springs, well at least on the indicator side which is causing the main beam relay to be pulsed.

With my headlights on I'm literally driving around flashing everyone... never a good thing laugh

I've found this Mk3 Cavalier switch....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Febi-Steering-Column-In...

Can someone confirm its the right part?

Thanks,

Dave.

Looks like original Vauxhall item, but possibly an after market copy.

Ok, I found this page...

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Which tells me the indicator/main beam switch used in the Chim & Griff is indeed as I thought from a Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3/Cbra/VX220, and the Vauxhall part no is 9181010.

Searching eBay for 9181010 gave me this for £16.00 from Euro Car Parts.....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333114853848

Lets give it a shot scratchchin

https://ecom.eraspares.com/ec/newprint.asp?IdComun...

The ERA part number is 440233, as soon as it turns up I'll let everyone know if it fits.

Cheers Simon, yes very embarrassing and not good for the relay chattering away like that either, although my headlights are LED so not as bad as if they were using original incandescent 45/55w bulbs I guess scratchchin

The issue actually first raised it's head some three years ago, at the time I needed to fix it in a hurry as I was out in the wild, so I effected a field repair by fashioning a packing shim from an old AA membership card smash

This worked a treat and I guess I could do the same again, but for just £16.00 for a new switch it makes sense now to sort it permanently, I've bought the sixteen quid ERA switch from Euro Car Parts so it should arrive soon, I'll report back here on the fit and quality.

The later ones look the same visually Mariva Zafira etc but the pin/plug arrangement got far smaller at around the same time GM introduced CANBUS to its vehicles IIRC

Interesting Simon, I hope I've ordered the correct part then?

ERA state its for many Vauxhall models, but I took confidence in them specifying it for a bunch of early 1990's Vauxhalls such as the Astra (1992 - 1996) ect.

The terminals in the image on the ERA website look like normal sized male spades, so I'm assuming this will fit my 1996 Chimaera scratchchin

Ok so that worked out well biggrin

A little bit of chop chop with a hacksaw and it's good to fit.

The £16.00 ERA switch I purchased from Euro Car Parts is identical.

I also renewed my packing shim for a super snug fit, this time I used an old Premier Inn key card laugh.

See the while line above my finger.

Went for a test drive and the crazy strobe effect headlights are gone, all fixed for just £16.00, you gotta love TVR for choosing cheap and easy to source parts thumbup

Thanks for coming back and updating this thread Dave.
I'll pop the part numbers in the Alternative Parts List over on the Griffith pages as I know these will be interchangeable between Griffith and Chimaera

Good stuff Ian thumbup

The £16.00 ERA switch is working perfectly, its an easy cheap fix to what others are suggesting is a common issue.

Thanks for updating the Alternative Parts List, it helps keep these great cars on the road by making the ownership experience easier and less expensive.

If it helps further the Euro Car Parts part number is: 461720011
