Made an enquiry to apwestern (Advanced Paints)

Took these from the paint thread here on PH.

Colour Code Colour Name Year PPG Code ICI Ref
TVR002 Halcyon Atlantis Blue -2002 PPG007 P422-HWF6B

and got this reply

Good afternoon,

I have checked all the paint codes that you have provided.

PPG and ICI are other companies paint codes, so we cant match off these.

TVR002 - Nothing under this.

Halcyon Atlantis Blue - Nothing under the name

P422 - is TVR Midnight Blue and TVR Starfire Blue

Could you contact TVR and give them the paint name, they should be able to give you a paint code.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Hi, you need to speak to a paint factor who can check and match it, but unless you have sprayed before and have the right kit and consumables it’s harder and more expensive than you think, especially with metallics so worth asking around and finding a pro to do it for you for the extra cost involved.

Thanks for the heads up. I have sprayed a few cars in my time, although quite some years ago now,

They were to a good standard when there wasn't clear coat around, so top coat was final gloss as well.

I have access to good kit so hopefully should be ok. Worst outcome is I mess up and then I'll take it in some where

For paint matching, I’d always recommend that people take the car along to a specialist equipped with a spectrometer.
They’ll then be able make up a mix to an almost perfect match to what is on the car.

After all, you don’t want an exact match based on a paint code, as fresh paint won’t match 20+ years of ageing.

Thats a gooď shout, I know they have a great reputation for doing spray work, can't see anywhere on their website indicating they sell the paint.

Anyone bought paint from them ?

I’d be getting someone else to paint it especially if it’s a difficult colour, save yourself the grief!

We have SRS in Sheffield who have a Spectrometer if you are ever coming near. 100% agree with Paul, the chances of you getting a paint sent to you that matches your car are very remote, so I'd be googling paint suppliers near you that have a Spectrometer or ask a local TVR specialist who they use.

Good luck with doing it yourself though - I assume with your job that you have a steady hand!

Interestingly enough, when my (spectrometer equipped) specialist mixed up a match for me, they told me that the original colour (Blue Pearl- TVR Code R2846), was a mixture that included Ford Ink Blue and (now get this) Rolls Royce Peacock Blue - I always knew TVR’s had quality built in!

A while ago. I phoned them. It was only a touch up bottle in my case, but it was a decent quantity compared to the thimble-fulls you sometime get.
