Exhaust modification question...

I know its proably been covered before, but couldnt find the answer to my query in a quick search, so...
There appear to be at least 2 options to by-pass the back box, either a) cut the box out compltetely and replace with pipe which splits from one to two(easily reversible in theory) or b) do the 'cut and shut' method talked about on here a lot, which would appear to be a bit more complicated(for me any way!) to reverse, if required.
My question is what are the +/- of each method?- been quoted the same price to do either option,and keeping the box intact for replacing if necessary seems the sensible option to me - am I missing something?

I had the baffles removed from mine.
Result:
- louder.
- sounds amazing.
- more pops.
- more bangs.

106.8dB measured at castle combe means its too loud for the track unless you get add-on silencers.

I say, F uck the neighbours.

Can't see why you'd want to replace the modification unless you do a lot of motorway miles. Did the mod about 6 months after I bought the car and never regretted it. What a sound

Thanks guys - but you didnt really answer the question!
Yes I agree F*** the neighbours and I wont change it back unless I have to - but if I sell it on (God forbid!)the buyer might not want it so loud.
So why do most people seem to go for the baffle removal rather than just take the box out?

I'd guess it's for MOT purposes. Can a car pass an MOT without a silencer?

To have the perforated pipes replaced in the backbox costs around £100. What's the alternative's cost?

I'd recomend if you did the pipe replacement that you ensure they go all the way through the box, as when mine went through 80% with baffles removed and there was a whistle when accelerating. Just had them replaced with straight through pipes...no whistle and better sound. Think there is a bit of lost back pressure though.

I second this, make sure whoever does the work doesn't just only remove the wadding in the silencer, otherwise you will end up with a nice 'turbo' whistle when you accelerate.
