Would anybody know where I can source these? I heard TVR actually produced some to fit the Chim. Saw some pics, they really look the part...

TVR Engineering used to offer an upgrade which included 5 stud hubs and AP 4 pot front callipers

Many thanks to you both for the reply. Impressive Chim picture by the way (where was that?).

Bola make a copy of the spider but with the right 4-bolt pattern and offsets. Slight different shape but, it would appear, a stronger wheel than the 18-inch spiders. The 16-inch spiders didn't have the buckling issues the 18's did.

Couple of ways to swap to 5-stud for spiders.

Swap the hub to the 5-stud, Jeep Cheeroke iirc, which may require a bearing change.

Get the Ford hubs redrilled in the right pattern. Engineering issues with this option. Welding, machining etc... Possible though.

There’s tons of stuff on here about it.
Quite a lot of work and details to get right to do it properly.

I had a Chim with spiders and it really suited the car. The work had already been done when I bought it.

But I’ve decided not to change my current one’s running gear.

The TVR kit used 16" Spiders. 18" would work on the rear but to achieve the standard rolling diameter on the front 18" doesn't leave enough room for tyre wall height thus reducing sideways flex. This reduces the progressiveness in under-steer making it less recoverable. Also potholes, speed bumps, etc. are likely to cause tyre bump where the inside of the tyre impacts the alloy rim. 18"s are susceptible to rim buckling. 18" looks great and on motorway driving they should drive well but country road driving could be an issue. I got in at the last minute and have the last TVR Eng set on mine. Actually the 4 pot AP calliper install has been the greatest improvement, it shifts brake balance to approx 75% front which works well with the weight distribution front to rear.

Mine came from the factory fitted 16” as an option...

Front hubs and brake upgrade....

Rear’s ...

Got to say the drilling of the spacers and general engineering on the rears are poor! It’s on my jobs list to sort out, but the handling etc is quite good!

My Griff was TVRs own development car for the five stud hubs/spider conversion and has 18” rears and 16” fronts

That’s spot on. If you don’t keep some tyre walk height your doomed to a poor ride on a car with 1960’s chassis and suspension tech biggrin
Crap steering, bone shaker comes to mind. I forsake looks or modern perceived looks of low profile tyres for wall height and all that adds from a drivers perspective let alone from a mechanical and an electrical vibration point of view. As Road cars they handle better and grip over bumps 10 times better than with run flats biggrin

Unless your flat chat on some race track keep your tyre wall height ( in my case I use 17 allround so ive increased tyre dia slightly from standard to regain the wall height. I also think the Chim suits that last of the old school muscle cars vibe so do look period with big old tyres, You know like the 70’s when play boys ruled the world rofl
Same can be said for ride height. They handle better on our old roads when they sit higher and can actually adjust for road camber better sat higher. A nicer drive for sure than a racecar laugh

17" not 18" though. They don't make them in 18.

That's a good thing, if you enjoy driving the car then 17" is as big as you should go. If you just want to look at the car then fit 18's

Not in the right bolt pattern for a standard Chim.
5 stud only in 18”.

I seem to recall that they would machine the bolt holes to the correct PCD for you. Might have been a minimum number required and it was a group buy.
They do look good though, hopefully lighter and less fragile than the original spiders too!

True but the conversation has moved on from 'standard' chimps many posts ago.
