Ambient Sensitivity

My 400HC appears incredibly sensitive to air temperature. It seems no time at all since she was running at 70 degrees and wouldn't warm through properly. However, over this weekend I've had to run with the heater on full blast to keep the temp guage out of the red.

I have to say that she pops and burbles much better on warm air but I don't understand why she's so sensitive. Is it a case of TADTS?

I'd say its a case of a faulty temperature sensor.

Indeed. There is no reason why a 400 should run hot even on a scorchio day like yesterday.

My 500 was running fine on the weekend. The fans were kicking in a lot but I'm running a lower temperature otter switch and thermostat as the car was running a little hot previous to that.

I'd check your otter switch and temperature sensor / thermostat and possibly get your cooling system pressure tested (not expensive).

I took the chim (a 2000 model) to Le Mans. On the way back on Sunday the ambient temperature was 36 degrees and I was in crawling stop-start traffic for best part of an hour just to get out of the carparks and through the town. Fans cut in just under 90 degrees (indicated on the temperature guage) and kept running continuously, but the temperature never rose above about 95.

In good condition, the Chim is perfectly capable of coping with high ambient temperatures without risk of overheating.
